The Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act is a U.S. federal law (enacted in 1975) designed to protect consumers from unfair warranty practices and to make warranties easier to understand and enforce.
What the Act Does
The law prevents manufacturers from automatically voiding a warranty simply because a consumer uses aftermarket parts or makes modifications to a product.
Key Principles
Aftermarket parts don’t void warranties by default

Only affected parts can be denied
Warranty coverage can only be denied for the specific components impacted by the modification—not the entire product. Unrelated systems must still be covered.
Clear warranty terms are required
